JAKARTA – Badak LNG has successfully achieved 124 million safe working hours, without missing work days without accidents since December 8 2006. This is one of the highest achievements in the oil and gas industry, not only nationally but also in the world. This also reflects Badak LNG’s commitment to creating a safe and secure work environment for all workers, work partners and stakeholders.
Recently, Badak LNG received national and international recognition, including the 2023 Subroto Award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the 2023 Patra Nirbhaya Utama award from the Director General of Oil and Gas and the WSO Concerned Company Award from the World Safety Organization. This award is the result of Badak LNG’s efforts in implementing the Oil and Gas Safety Management System consistently and building a safety culture in the work environment on an ongoing basis.
Teten Hadi Rustendi, Director & COO Badak LNG, this achievement is the result of the entire team’s hard work in building a safety culture. “This achievement is concrete proof of our commitment to keeping every worker safe at work. “This is the result of the entire team’s hard work and we will continue to maintain these highest standards in terms of safety,” said Teten in his statement (5/10).
Badak LNG’s success in maintaining a high level of work safety for almost 17 years is not only a numerical achievement, but also a reflection of the Company’s culture which makes safety a top priority in every aspect of its operations.
One of the main factors influencing the strength of the safety culture at Badak LNG is real management commitment. Plus the support of workers and contractors in implementing the Company’s safety management system. “A culture of caring about safety and security at work has become part of carrying out work, where each individual apart from paying attention to his own safety and security also reminds his co-workers,” said Teten.
Like the PDCA cycle, the Company’s Safety Management System is always evaluated periodically to continuously drive the wheels of continuous improvement in all lines. Developing a Management System is mandatory, but identifying and focusing on the “big problems” currently being faced and consistently implementing a Safety Management System is the key to success in maintaining a culture of SHEQ excellence for the past 17 years. Badak LNG also implements open and transparent communication regarding safety issues.
This encourages workers to be more courageous in reporting potential dangers and accident incidents without causing concern (No Blame Policy). Not only that, the implementation of giving rewards and recognition to workers has also proven effective in creating motivation to maintain high safety standards. Apart from prioritizing safety aspects, Badak LNG also cares about the health of all workers and work partners.
Badak LNG consistently carries out routine health monitoring and screening to determine the health status or degree of each worker before carrying out work activities. By building a strong safety and health culture and implementing strict safety practices, Badak LNG achieved the impressive feat of almost 17 years without losing safe working hours. “This is proof that safety is not only a priority, but also an inseparable part of Badak LNG,” said Teten.
